A perfect ending

Last night in the amphitheatre of the Opera Bastille we saw a stunning performance titled, Danseurs Choreographers. Ten young choreographers presented recent work danced by members of the corps de Ballet of the Opera.  Accompaniment was diverse from Bach to Chopin to Arvo Part to popular recordings of Carla Bruni, the wife of the French President to spoken words mostly non-sequiturs a la Danny Kaye.  (For those of you old enough to remember him.)

The pieces covered the range of human emotional experience:  isolation, melancholy, the beginning of the world, narcissism, the end of the world and, because this is Paris, a Fashion shoot.

The skills of the dancers were matched by their bodies; perfection.  Each could easily be a live model for an anatomy lesson.

One of the pleasures of the Opera Bastille is  that we’re 10 minutes from there.  Home, a glass of wine poured and Renée fixed boiled potatoes, sprinkled with olive oil from Provence and a special treat, grated fresh black truffle from the local market.
